NVC-mediation with John Kinyon
Nonviolent Communication™ (NVC)has been developed by Marshall Rosenberg.
People worldwide benefit from this communicationproces to connect to what's alive,
to heal and to mediate. NVC makes use of an awareness and model of observations,
feelings, needs and requests, which, among other things, help get to the core of conflict.
To aid and strengthen a connection between people that helps them reach out to others - this is an intention
that NVC shares with mediation.
This year, Bisho has invited the experienced NVC-mediator John Kinyon to
come to Europe and share his NVC-mediationskills in a unique, three-day training, entitled 'NVC-mediation'.
This 3-day training offers experiential learning and skill-building practice
with the mediation model of NVC and its application to conflict in all types
of situations -- from organizational and community to personal relationships,
in four mediation contexts - internal, interpersonal, informal, and formal -
as well as pre and post mediation.
The class provides a format of improvised triad role-plays and group
harvesting of the learning. In the role plays, you have a chance to
be in the role of mediator, disputant and observer, and receive
invaluable learning and feedback from the disputant and observer roles,
as well as in-the-moment coaching. You can then move into the mediator's
chair and put into practice what you've just learned.
NVC connects us to a universal language of the heart -- a language of life.
NVC develops presence, communication skills and consciousness for creating connection
based in compassionate giving and receiving, even when people are making it
hardest for us to do this. NVC was developed by Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D.
and is disseminated through the Center for
Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) and it's over 230 trainers and
thousands of others world-wide.
NVC Mediation training helps people to:
- Mediate warring voices in your own head
- Peacefully resolve conflicts you are having with others
- Learn to be present with the intensity of conflict
- Lend skills to support others in conflict - both informally and formally
- Apply mediation skills to support groups in conflict
- Offer conflict coaching to others to support their personal growth
About the trainer
John has offered communication and conflict resolution to people around the world,
including work with Afghan tribal elders along the Pakistani border in early 2002.
Over the past 7 years John has co-developed with colleague Ike Lasater
NVC mediation training that now includes 5-day residential retreats and
year-long immersion programs in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. He has been a
trainer of the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) since 2000 and is a
co-founder of the Bay Area NVC organization (BayNVC). He has studied and worked
closely with NVC founder Marshall Rosenberg since 1998 and has been regularly
invited by him to be a staff trainer at 9-day international intensive trainings.
John has mediated conflicts on just about every level of human relationship,
including couples, family, community, business, legal contexts and institutions.
In organizations he has had particular experience with family businesses. John's
professional background is in academic psychology and psychotherapy, particularly
in Carl Rogers' study of empathic listening, congruence, and unconditional positive
regard, and also Mahatma Gandhi's life and work applying nonviolence to social change.
